Glossary

Scrotum: A skin-covered sac which contains the testicles, blood vessels and some part of the spermatic cord.

Valsalva maneuver: An effort to exhale with the mouth and nose closed. This increases the pressure inside the middle ear.

Air embolism: Blockage of a blood vessel due to a gas or air bubble inside it.

Peritonitis: Inflammation of the layer of the tissue which lines the abdominal cavity and organs inside it.

Hydrocele: The accumulation of watery fluid around the testicles, resulting in swelling in the scrotum.
