Chemotherapy - Glossary

Philadelphia chromosome - A chromosomal abnormality that results from a translocation between chromosomes 22 and 9. It is a marker in CML.

Monoclonal antibody - Antibodies that are raised against a specific target.

Immunosuppression - A condition when the immune system is compromised.

Adjuvant Chemotherapy - It is the use of drugs as an added treatment for cancer patients whose disease has spread outside the original site(s).

Radiation Treatment - Using ionizing radiation like gamma rays to treat cancer.

Myelosuppression - A condition where the bone marrow cells are severely affected, as in the case of certain cancers.

Secondary cancer - Cancer that arises as a result of treating an already existing cancer.
