Glossary

Acoustic neuroma: A non-cancerous tumor on the main nerve leading from the inner ear to the brain.

Arteriovenous malformation (AVM): An abnormal connection due to tangling of the arteries and veins, usually in the brain or spine.

Epilepsy: A disease in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed, causing seizures.

Lymphedema: Swelling due to blockage in the lymphatic system.

Necrosis: The death of most or all of the cells in an organ or tissue due to disease, injury, or interruption of the blood supply.

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD): A psychiatric disorder in which excessive thoughts (obsessions) lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions).

Parkinson’s disease: A disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) i.e. brain and spinal cord, which causes stiffness and affects movement, often accompanied by tremors.

Psychoneurosis: Also simply termed as neurosis, it is a mental disorder that causes a sense of distress and deficit in functioning, often characterized by anxiety, depression or other feelings of unhappiness.

Trigeminal neuralgia: A chronic pain condition affecting the trigeminal nerve in the face.
