Q: What is a clinical trial?
A: A clinical trial is a form of research study done on humans to know the efficacy and safety of a new treatment modality. It is taken up only after adequate studies have been carried out in the laboratory and in animals.
Q: Can stem cells cause cancer or tumor?
A: Although not documented in actual medical therapy, there is a theoretical risk of tumor formation because stem cells may lose the growth regulating mechanisms during their manipulation in laboratory. But this phenomenon needs more research.
