Dental caries: A destructive process causing decalcification of the tooth enamel and leading to continued destruction of enamel and dentine, and cavitation of the tooth.Dental implant: A small metal pin placed inside the jawbone to mimic the root of a tooth. Dental implants can be used to help anchor a false tooth or teeth, or a crown or bridge.
Diabetes: A condition in which the body cannot properly store or use glucose (sugar), the body's main source of energy.
Fuoride: Element found in nature that helps prevent tooth decay.
Gingivitis: Inflammation of the gums surrounding teeth. Signs of gingivitis are inflamed and bleeding gums.
Hygiene: The practice, maintenance, and study of health; commonly refers to cleanliness.
Pain: An unpleasant sensation that can range from mild localized discomfort to agony. Pain has both physical and emotional components.
Plaque: Thin layer of food debris and bacteria, which covers the tooth surface.
Tartar: White or yellowish deposit on the margin of the teeth.
