The Indian healthcare system has undergone substantial changes in recent years, with the government focusing on increasing the availability of medical professionals. The number of medical colleges has surged by 82%, and MBBS and postgraduate (PG) medical seats have also seen dramatic growth, helping to improve the doctor and nurse populations across the country.

These efforts have resulted in a doctor-population ratio of 1:834 and a nurse-population ratio of 1:476 as of 2022. Government initiatives, such as new medical college establishments and relaxed norms for setting up nursing programs, have played a crucial role in these advancements.
