About - Bladder Diverticulum is a pouch like projection due to weakness in the bladder wall. The wall of a diverticulum is thin compared to the bladder wall.
Causes - Congenital or acquired. Acquired may be due to longstanding Bladder Outlet Obstruction. .
Location - Anywhere in bladder but often occurs near ureteric orifices (opening of ureter into bladder).
Symptoms - Mostly no symptoms.Sometimes infection causes painful urination.
Complications - Stone and cancer can occur in a bladder diverticulum. It prevents bladder from emptying completely and leads to infection.
Treatment - Removing obstruction or surgical removal of the diverticulum.
