Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor which works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain which helps in mood balance. It is prescribed for major depressive illness, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, anxiety, body dysmorphic disorder, social phobia, premenstrual dysmorphic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, alcoholism, and eating disorders.
