Fentanyl is an opioid or narcotic analgesic prescribed for the management of chronic pain such as cancer pain and as a part of anesthesia to prevent pain before surgery. It is a prescription only medicine more stronger in relieving pain and should be used in decreasing the pain symptoms only in patients who are tolerant to opioid therapy.
