Isotretinoin is a prescription only medicine (POM) related to vitamin A and its isomer tretinoin is also used to treat acne. It is prescribed for treating acne vulgaris and severe recalcitrant nodular acne resulting in deep or painful cysts and nodules. Isotretinoin works by regulating cell proliferation and differentiation along with slowing down the synthesis of certain substances responsible for causing acne.
