Levothyroxine is recommended to treat hypothyroidism, goiter or enlarged thyroid gland, congenital hypothyroidism or cretinism, thyroid cancer, and to suppress the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). It comes as a tablet form which should be taken once a day by mouth on an empty stomach, half an hour to one hour before breakfast.
