Meropenem is a carbapenem antibiotic prescribed for treating bacterial meningitis, complicated skin and structure infections, complicated appendicitis, peritonitis, hospital acquired infections, complicated urinary tract infections, and intra and post-partum infections. It is highly active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa but inactive against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecium.
