What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome ?  

Increased pressure on the median nerve at the wrist causing numbness, tingling and other symptoms.


Cause(s) :  
  • Predisposition to diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Manual work with vibrating tools
Symptoms :  
  • Numbness or tingling sensation in hand and fingers
  • Pain in wrist, palm or forearm
  • Numbness or pain that worsens in night
  • Unbearable pain experienced in the middle of night that it might wake you up
  • Increase in pain on using hand or wrist
  • Trouble gripping objects
  • Tendency to drop things
  • Weakness in thumb
Diagnosis and Tests :  
  • Clinical examination like Phalen’s maneuver, Tinel’s sign, Durkan test, Hand elevation test
  • X Ray
  • CT
  • MRI
  • Skin Examination
