What is Cruveilhier-baumgarten Syndrome ?  

It is a rare medical condition with distension of umbilical or paraumbilical veins, characterized by the presence of an abdominal wall bruit and a palpable thrill. There is portal hypertension, splenomegaly, hypersplenism and esophageal varices.Liver may be smaller than normal.


Cause(s) :  
  • The blood flowing through paraumbilical vein bypasses the liver, causing the condition.
Symptoms :  
  • Liver cirrhosis, small size of liver
  • Enlarged spleen
  • Patent Umbilical veins
  • Portal hypertension
