Deep is the story of a nurse (Suchitra Sen) who is involved in groundbreaking techniques to treat patients suffering immense emotional trauma. The modus operandi is to offer patients emotional support even to the extent of being romantically involved if need be. Suchitra Sen is required to act as a friend and a lover for the patient but is expected to refrain from being emotionally involved since she is just doing her job in helping the patient recover. She must realize that she is just part of the therapy. The nurse succumbs to the method of treatment and makes the mistake of falling in love with her patient. The emotional trauma she undergoes is neglected. Towards the end, Sen is seen as a traumatized patient in the same ward where she used to heal her patients saying, "I couldn't act. I couldn't."
