Doctors have very little hope of her survival and without artificial assistance even that is zero. John Lithgow and Mary Beth Hurt as the despair parents sign off the responsibility of their first born to the doctors only to soon face a financial crunch due to the highly expensive experiments.
Tube strewn this infant battling for her life leaves her parents all in tears who are helpless and at the mercy of the myriad tests the doctors carry out all on a positive attempt to save her life but also making her a guinea pig to several uncalled for experiments. Her Parents while hard heartedly want to free her from her misery and let her rest in peace, are not allowed to do so. To make things worse they get a court order stating that all the tests to save the baby’s life be done.
As much as it seems cruel on the parent’s part they are not presented as monsters but as helpless parents who are at a juncture where their hopes have almost died, in spite of the advancement in science and the latest medicines. In a nutshell baby girl Scott is a tearjerker presenting to the audience not just the cruelty of life and death but misery beyond that where if you look forward you see Scylla and step back its Charybdus. The little baby battles it all and emerges as a survivor at the end of it all bringing smile and hope to her parents who had almost lost their faith.
