Storyline : Augusten Burroughs; a 14-year-old boy is handed over to the eccentric household of a psychiatrist Dr. Finch after his parents divorce each other. His mother who abandons him thinks she is a good poetess on the verge of fame. During that year, Augusten avoids school, keeps a journal, and practices cosmetology. His mother's mental illness worsens. He strikes a friendship with Dr. Finch's daughter and also receives gifts from an unknown benefactor. The question arises, will he survive to come of age?
