Storyline : Director Martin Scorsese’s latest film Hugo is surely an altogether different film, when compared to his earlier films and this is the first time the legendary film maker is trying his hand at 3D technology and also, Hugo is a children’s film, which again is very unlike Scorsese’s any other films, because the director is usually known for making very serious films.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret is the best selling book the film Hugo’s story is based on and the film like any other Scorsese film has enjoyed immense support from film critiques all over the world, but unfortunately for Scorsese this time, his film Hugo has failed to create the same kind of an impact in the general audience. Though its makers tout the film to be a children’s film, in reality it is a very serious film that will generally appeal only to the audience with a flair for good films.

The story of the film is about a twelve-year-old orphan, who lives with his uncle after his father dies and then his uncle too disappears mysteriously. The boy’s father leaves behind a robot, which is shrouded in mystery and the boy ventures to unravel the mystery, while he takes care of his uncle’s clock in his absence. On the way the boy befriends a girl almost of his same age and together the two friends set about to go on an adventure filled journey.

Hugo takes us back to the past, to a time when films like Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz were ruling the movie world and Scorsese has also made generous use of the 3D technology to add more quality to the film. Even in spite if its huge budget the director has decided to boldly stay away from big Hollywood stars and has focused more on the story and the film’s script instead. Hugo without doubt is a very honestly told story, and though it might not all the time be the kind of film children today are trained to watch and enjoy, Hugo still is the kind of an ideal movie, best suited for children.
