Simple mathematical calculations are a knotty affair for most young adults in the UK who have recently left school, for 1 in 14 of them cannot solve basic maths questions meant for 8-year-olds, according to a survey.
The survey was conducted to mark the release of the ITV DVD Numberjacks: Calling All Agents!, the Scotsman reports. The ‘brain gain’ software props up pre-school children to learn key numerical skills.
The survey asked 2,000 adults to find one eighth of 32 and while 96 percent of those aged 55 and over gave the right answer, only 88 percent aged 18 to 25 gave correct replies.
The survey also noted that parents were realising that pre-school learning helps their kids later in life.
74 per cent of adults believed that watching educational programmes as a young child helped learning and majority of parents said that kids programs should contain some education.
