A report issued by a Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has said that a total of 283 suicide and attempt to suicide cases were reported in Pakistan in the time span of one month. These cases were reported during the time period between August 24 and September 26, The News reports.
However, FIRs of only 41 of those cases were registered by the police, according to the HRCP report.
The number of people who committed suicide in Pakistan during the given time span was 166, which included 68 women, the report said.
Forty-one of these cases were reported from the Sindh province alone, it added.
The majority of the victims had ended their lives due to petty family disputes and poverty, the report said.
Another 117 people attempted suicide during the said period, however, timely medical treatment saved their lives.
