166 People Committed Suicide In Pakistan In One Month: Report

A report issued by a Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has said that a total of 283 suicide and attempt to suicide cases were reported in Pakistan in the time span of one month.

These cases were reported during the time period between August 24 and September 26, The News reports.

Overview Suicide
Suicide is an act of ending one's own life and it usually results from emotional isolations and inability to adjust and cope with one's environment.

However, FIRs of only 41 of those cases were registered by the police, according to the HRCP report.

The number of people who committed suicide in Pakistan during the given time span was 166, which included 68 women, the report said.

Forty-one of these cases were reported from the Sindh province alone, it added.

The majority of the victims had ended their lives due to petty family disputes and poverty, the report said.

Another 117 people attempted suicide during the said period, however, timely medical treatment saved their lives.

The report also said that 36 people, including 26 women, were brutally murdered across the country in the name of honour.
