Britain has launched a 3-in-1 superpill, called Sevikar HCT, which successfully controls the patient's blood pressure (BP) without having to take multiple tablets. This new pill contains olmesartan medoxomil (OLM), long-acting selective angiotensin II receptor blocker; amlodipine (AML), a calcium channel blocker; and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), a diuretic.Sevikar HCT is manufactured by Daiichi-Sankyo. This prescription-only pill has been approved as a substitution therapy for patients whose BP is already adequately controlled by a combination of three already available drugs.
Almost 2 million people in UK take three or more than three medications for controlling their BP. However, 80% of them do not take the medicines as directed which increases the risk of fatality or heart attack or stroke. The makers hope that this combination pill will help several patients to stick to their medication regimes.
This superpill is available at a cost of just 26p.
