A team of British researchers has developed a 3D model of human upper airway that can be used to test new drugs for asthma and allergy rather than using animals. According to the study, published in the journal Molecular Pharmaceutics, researchers led by Amir Ghaemmaghami layered epithelial, dendritic, and fibroblast cells from scaffolds into a model.
The researchers exposed the model to an allergen and found that it was able to exhibit an immune response as would happen in real tissue.
