50% of young US adults uninsured

According to a Government survey, nearly 50% of youth in the United States cannot boast of a health insurance that backs them up, and so is the case with nearly 15 million American adults who have been uninsured for nearly four years in succession.

A report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, found that those Americans who were not covered under health insurance belong to the lower rung of society, and invariably poor . Among the ethnic minorities, the Hispanic groups seem to be the most uninsured.

The 2003 survey revealed that nearly 24.2 percent of poor Americans under the age of 65, or 3.8 million people, expressed that they were totally uncovered by health insurance for fourconsecutive. Nearly everyone at 65 becomes eligible for Medicare, the federal-state health insurance plan for the elderly.

Other parallel surveys have estimated the total number of uninsured Americans at about 46 million, and this perhaps indicates the widespread unaffordability factor amongst people who are unable to pay up for the insurance cover. Source: Eureka Alert
