The DCGI said that a surprise raid on medical shops in New Delhi has revealed that more than half of the shops were selling drugs that have been banned in the country.

DCGI said that the chemists have been issued Form 15 which prevents them from disposing off their stock of medicines and added that strict action will be taken against the shops and suppliers that were found to be selling the banned drugs.
The agency also revealed that a decision on banning painkiller drug dextropropoxyphene will be taken on June 20. Dextropropoxyphene has been already banned in a number of western countries including the US and UK and though doctors believe that it is an effective painkiller, the drug has been known to lead to addiction if used for long periods.
