Sharukh Khan ‘s decision not to quit smoking “On screen” did not deter the Police and of Delhi University from launching the anti smoking campaign in their campus.

Sharukh Khan may have turned down the request of Union Health minister to “quit smoking onscreen but the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) has not quit demanding a blanket ban on smokers in the  campus from mid of February.

The fact that all the cigarette vendors are out of stock of tobacco products from Thursday speaks of the seriousness of the anti-smoking campaign in Delhi University campus.

The campaign starts with an awareness drive at the student front that will inform students about the new rules.

The new rules bans vendors from selling tobacco products and cigarette within 100 meters of any college and bans students from smoking within the area. The vendors who sell cigarettes and tobacco products after Feb 15 is liable for a penalty of Rs 200 for the first time and Rs 500 subsequently. The penalty for students will be announced shortly.

It is not mentioned whether there is a ban on public who cross the campus.

The anti-smoking campaign jointly carried out by the Delhi University, Delhi Police, and DUSU has formed Anti-Smoking Cell personnel with students. DCP Devesh Srivastav said on Thursday that the joint squad would catch smokers in the University area from February 15,

Though the Delhi public is skeptical on the persistence  of the students, they appreciate the move considering the health perspective involved in it.
