Adults Lie About Their Exercise Regimens

The Health Survey for England has found that many adults lie about their exercise regimens.

The Health Survey for England has found that many adults lie about their exercise regimens. the survey found that one in 20 adults does the recommended amount of exercise on a weekly basis.

The survey of 2,480 people found that 39 per cent of men and 29 per cent of women said they were doing 30 minutes of moderate or vigorous activity on five days of the week. However when their weekly activity was measured on accelerometer just 6 per cent of men and 4 per cent of women were found to be getting the recommended exercise activity.

"There is a stark mismatch between how much adults say they are doing and what they are doing in reality," said Tim Straughan, chief executive of the information centre.

Betty McBride, policy director for the British Heart Foundation said it was time people faced up to the fact that inactive lifestyles were affecting health.
