Six persons have died of AIDS in the district in past two months while seven new HIV positive cases were identified this month, an official said today.
This month alone, seven new HIV positive cases were identified in the district while six persons died of AIDS in the past two months, Chief Medical Superintendent Rajni Kant Gupta said. With this, the number of HIV positive cases has risen to 58 of which 30 of the infected were between 20 and 35 years, he added.
Gupta did not rule out the possibility of more HIV cases since they were not reported in the first place due to fear of social ostracisation.
With HIV positive cases on the rise, health authorities also called upon non-governmental organisations to spread awareness about the disease through awareness programmes.
