Vehicular pollution is wrecking havoc to health of New Delhi residents, according to a recent study conducted by Vallabh Bhai Patel Chest Institute. Nearly one in ten children between 5 and 14 years suffer from asthma and other allergies owing to vehicular pollution.
According to Dr. Rajiv Uttam, a pediatric pulmonologist with Fortis Hospital in New Delhi, numbers of children with allergic problems is on the rise. He cautions parents against the indiscriminate use of cough and cold suppressants to treat chronic cough, instead they should consult with a specialist.In his opinion, a flu shot may help lower the chances of getting respiratory problems by 20 to 30%.
