The Americans have defeated Britons yet again! That is, in making medical insurance claims worldwide to the tune of an average of a whopping £4,725! Conducted by Sainsbury's Finance, recent research had revealed that the average medical insurance claims from Britons abroad are over £1,300.
The study said that the average medical insurance claim made by Brits who fall ill or have an accident abroad is now £1,333.41.
However, average claims from the US came in at £4,725.
Meanwhile, the least expensive country was Greece, where the average claim for a hospital visit was £422. But even this expense can catch holidaymakers off-guard if they aren’t prepared with adequate travel insurance and medical insurance.
Mr Scott Gorman, Sainsbury’s travel insurance manager, commented: “It's vitally important for holidaymakers to protect themselves and their family when travelling abroad, and the best peace of mind you can have is by having a good quality travel insurance policy.”
He added that a European Health Insurance Card is not an alternative to travel insurance. It will only offer you the same healthcare provided to a resident of the country you are in. “This means that should you require medical attention you may face huge medical bills, which is a concern, especially in countries such as the United States the cost of medical treatment can be extortionate,” he said.
