If you thought back-pain is a malady of the present times, you will be surprised to know that even ancient man suffered from backache. Archaeologists made this discovery after they unearthed bones from a pit in Spain. The bones which belonged to a man who lived about 500,000 years ago, had visible signs of wear and tear.
It is surprising that back-pain, which is a fallout of sedentary lifestyle, was also the lot of ancient man, who were hunters and gatherers, and have thus lived an active life.
Cambridge’s Dr Asier Gomez-Olivencia He said: “We are looking at the spine of a man who had several issues, which are associated with pain today.Someone with such a damaged spine would have been useless at hunting and would have needed to be cared."
