A hospital in Singapore has given birth to a new idea. Anxious parents and relatives can actually see their little ones at the hospital on the net.

A hospital in Singapore has given birth to a new idea. Anxious parents and relatives can actually see their little ones at the hospital on the net. And this comes with live audio and video feed. Imagine being busy at your office and still being able to see your kid at the hospital bed at the same time! Sounds cool?

Singapore’s Thomson medical center website gives parents passwords that can be entered and - lo and behold!!! Live audio video feed of their wards pop out of the computer!

Though this isn’t the first time in the world that this is happening, the hospital has set the trend in using live audio video feed to help parents and relatives in touching base with their loved ones slumbering in a hospital cot.

This facility will be very useful if the baby is premature and is in the intensive neonatal unit, where visitors are not allowed. This way the parents can see their loved ones live and still keep the kid within the safe precincts of the intensive care unit. Also the local custom of home confinement of one month for a mother after childbirth makes it difficult for them to visit their kids if they are hospitalized due to illness.

This facility has come as a boon to these people and is turning out to be a big hit with Singaporeans.

This is called view baby project and the web casting technology used by view baby has been used for corporate video conferencing and to broadcast Madonna’s latest concert. The pilot project was free and the hospital authorities are yet to decide on the fee for this facility. Internet revolution is reaching dizzying heights!!!
