Researchers at University College London have identified key genes, which are thought to slow down the aging process.
The finding could hold out hope for patients suffering from debilitating diseases like heart disease and Alzheimer's disease. The study found that proteins that encode for insulin and insulin-like growth factor 1 signalling pathways had the ability to increase the lifetime of worms and mice."By tacking the causes of ageing we could treat or at least delay a broad spectrum of conditions simultaneously. This research means a new approach to treatment of age-related conditions," lead researcher Professor Linda Partridge said.
She added that this might be the best way to treat the diseases of ageing.
