The recent report from United Nations portraying overall statistics of patients receiving treatment for AIDS worldwide is positive. ART for AIDS has certainly reached many, though there is a certain population of sufferers who are left out.
As per the recent figures, it is estimated that about two million people in the world undergo treatment for AIDS. Only 11% of pregnant women sufferers received the treatment. Upon comparison with the figures of last year, there has been a remarkable improvement of 700,000 who have received the anti-retroviral therapy.Yet we are still a million less than the target set by WHO for the year 2005. Only 28% of the 7.1 million AIDS sufferers in the world are receiving treatment for AIDS.
Studies have demonstrated the success rate of AIDS treatment, about 93% in the year following the commencement of therapy. The report has appealed to the governments to do all they can to ensure antiretroviral therapy is provided to the deprived.
