Australia Facing Dental Care Crunch

Residents in St Albans in Australia are having to wait for two years to get basic dental care and four years if they need dentures.

Residents in St Albans in Australia are having to wait for two years to get basic dental care and four years if they need dentures.

The Victoria State Government’s latest figures show that the waiting times for getting access to general dental care are way above targets.

Dr Mark Bowman, president of the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB), admitted that waiting times had become concerning, “The consequence of these extended delays is that treatment needs that could be addressed by simple restorative measures become much more complex, or worse, become so extreme, that extraction or hospitalization is required,” he said.

He said that least $300 million was needed in funds to meet government targets.
