Autism in Love is a documentary about the lives of four adults with autism coping with the challenges of romantic relationships.
Finding love can be difficult for most people, and can be challenging for people with autism. One in sixty eight children have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that causes social, communication and behavioral challenges.
Adults with autism face difficulties especially in dating and relationships. Some assume that people with autism are incapable of or disinterested in romance. But, a new documentary, “Autism In Love”, follows the lives of four adults with autism and the struggles they encounter as they try to pursue and manage romance with others.
Independent filmmakers Matt Fuller and Carolina Groppa made the documentary “Autism in Love”.
Dr. Paul Wang, head of medical research at Autism Speaks, said, “Although we think about autism, and people with autism, in terms of a social impairment, the deficit isn't in desire. The deficit is in the skills needed to understand other people’s social and communicative behavior, and in expressing oneself through language and social behaviors.”
