Babies under two years of age to be administered Meningitis vaccination

Following the advice of the Scottish Executive Health experts, NHS forth valley has decided to include the pneumoccocal vaccine into the child immunization programme

Following the advice of the Scottish Executive Health experts, NHS forth valley has decided to include the pneumoccocal vaccine into the child immunization programme, which will necessitate and all babies under the age of two to compulsorily take the shot that accords protection against a lethal meningitis form. The number of doses of the vaccine will depend on the age of the children.

Nearly 700 cases of meningitis and septicemia have been reported in Scotland during the past five years, and nearly 69 of them happen to be children less than two years of age.
