With the view to encourage mothers to breastfeed their babies a hospital has
defended its decision to stop supplying free formula milk for babies. The Hull trust
said it would only provide formula milk if there was a risk to the baby's
health. For mothers who decide to bottlefeed their babies the hospital would
provide just one bottle following the child's birth. Thereafter mothers would
be expected to have brought their own supply.
In order to tackle childhood obesity and other health problems mother's who
use formula milk will be given more advice and support to prevent them over feeding
their babies.
Dewsbury, Bradford and Barnsley are other Yorkshire trusts which do not
supply free milk.
