Baby Gloom: ‘Baby Gap’ Generation Signals Babies’ Days Out!

Women are too busy building careers, and raking in the moolah, with no time or the inclination to make babies that result in delayed motherhood, reveals a recent study. As a result, Baby statistics make very boring read, a loss of 92,000 babies each year!

The Institute for Public Policy Research has expressed in its study that delaying motherhood till the 30’s or after, gives rise to problems of infertility. But Women seem to be stuck up on the potential “fertility penalty”, which means that most of them are forced to make-do with low-paid jobs after having children.

Early motherhood monetary losses were estimated in the Institute’s report, and it said that an educated woman, who becomes a mother at 24, will incur a loss of £564,000 earnings in a lifetime, as against losing £165,000 if she delays motherhood by just four more years.

The solution, according to Nick Pearce, director of the institute's research wing, lies in enabling assistance to working women, so that they are encouraged to have children early. According to him “"Britain is now at a demographic fork in the road and in danger of taking the wrong direction. A fall in fertility would make it harder to earn our way in the world and to pay for valued public services.”

He also added “This is not a report that says to women stay at home and have children. Our society depends on women working, being able to fulfill their aspirations and have greater equality at work - and we need better to support that."
