It pays to know that regular alcohol intake can cause damage to the liver and brain.

Researchers have begun watching out for the baby boomer generation, those born between 1945 and 1965, who by virtue of having easy access to alcohol, were quite acquainted with the ways of the inebriated world. With changing attitudes and acceptance of social drinking, many have taken to regular drinking. Wine, earlier consumed on special occasions, is now a daily feature in many homes. While there is little doubut the benefits of red wine in reducing heart disease and stroke, yet it would be wise to draw a line with the number of drinks.

Professor Mary Gilhooly, head of gerontology research at Glasgow Caledonian University, is of the opinion that the existing prescribed alcohol limit cannot be the barometer for all age groups. It must be known that the capacity to metabolize alcohol wanes with age, so the rule that applies to 25 year olds will not hold water with a 50 year old.
