Bio-medical Waste Poses Grave Danger to Environment

The Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) conducted a workshop to address the growing issue of bio-medical waste as it poses a grave danger to the environment.

NPCB chairman A Rongsenwati said that bio-medical waste consisted of human or animal tissues, blood or body fluids, excreta, pharmaceutical products and even syringes, swabs and dressings. He pointed out that this material needed to be disposed off properly as it fell under the Bio-medical waste (Management & Handling) rules, 1998.

External Affairs Minister Taken to Army Hospital in Delhi

“Common bio-medical waste treatment facility, which is working in other places…should also work here in our state," he said.

Resource person for the workshop, Ritesh Prasad Gurung, an Assistant Environmental Engineer under Central Pollution Control Board, Shillong, said that bio-medical waste posed a great danger to human health and needed to be addressed urgently.
