Biovac, Hepatitis A Vaccine Marketed By Wockhardt

A new vaccine for Hepatitis A has been introduced in the market from thursday by pharma company in kerala.

A new break through in the medical field was seen when Pharma major Wockhardt limited (Thiruvananthapuram) in association with the Chinese Biotech company who were the instigators for the vaccine, marketed the latest vaccine for Hepatitis A.

Hepatitis A is very common in India and various measures are to be taken to curb the spread of the disease. The causative agent is a virus which has an incubation period of almost a month and spreads to humans through feco-oral route damaging the liver.

The strain (H-2) used for the preparation of the vaccine is been marked as Biovac and will be available in India cities by Thursday. The vaccine is available as a single dose, given subcutaneously for both adults and children and confers immunity for fifteen years.

The prototype of this vaccine (Zhepu) was formulated in China (1992) and statistics reveal that till date around 120 million people have been vaccinated.

The vaccine showed appreciable results when tested on 200 children in Pune and if advertised properly to all the sections of the people, doctors and health care officials then it would save millions of lives.
