Researchers at Charité University Hospital in Berlin have created a unique video in which a 24-year old mother agreed to spend the final stages of her labor inside a MRI machine, allowing the researchers to capture what happens inside a woman’s body during the birth process. "Knowledge about the mechanism of labor is based on assumptions and radiographic studies performed decades ago," the researchers wrote in their study.
The study could prove useful as it can provide pointers regarding the anatomical processes that are taking place as the baby leaves the womb and enters the world.
The study is published in the June issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
