Birth Rate Drop in Europe – Fertility Experts Warn

Health experts warned the demographic crisis of Europe threatens the public health systems leading to fall in birth rates .

Due to lack in the fertility-related studies and clinics performing assisted conception, a fall in the birth rate was seen – said Paul Devroey, the chairman of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.

He added more fertility organizations and policies related to development of fertility losses were need to be started by the government authorities to put back this birth rate drop.

Now-a-days couples delay to have children become the most predominant reason for the crisis and IVF cannot overcome the nature – said Mohamed Taranissi, medical director of the Assisted Reproduction and Gynaecology Centre, London.

European Commission said a fall in the Europian’s annual economic growth rate from 2.2 per cent to 1.9 per cent between 2011 and 2030, and to 1.3 per cent from 2031 to 2050.

Also a rise in birth rate was found in 2000, which seems to be due to improved childcare benefits, the average number of children per women is still around 1.3 in Greece, Italy and Spain.

Nearly €4,000 ($5,050, £2,730) were spent by about 5 per cent of the couples to involve IVF and other forms of assisted conception.

Implanting a single embryo is about 20 percent cheaper – said Bart Fauser, of Erasmus University in the Netherlands from researches.

Professor Devroey said ‘Twin pregnancies are risky’, when parents were more likely to divorce or have psychological problems.

But Dr Taranissi found only few health problems with more than 15 per cent of twins born and a healthy embryo needs an safe environment, which is the womb. Thus many clinics are now improving the tests to ensure the life of healthy embryo’s.
