On June 14th it was the World Blood Donor Day ,in addition to being National Blood Donor Week in Canada.
Canadian Blood Services honored their blood donors, by joining over 192 World Health Organization (WHO) members, and more than 200 voluntary blood donor organizations, in appreciating and acknowledging the altruistic act of blood, plasma, platelets and bone marrow donation. Several clinics were organized as a part of the celebration."World Blood Donor Day and National Blood Donor Week offers area residents a chance to say thanks to the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who, each year, donate blood, blood products or bone marrow," says Judy Compton, Regional Director for Canadian Blood Services in Southern Ontario.
"We need more Canadians to lead by example and become regular blood donors like the ones we are honouring today" ,she added.
