Blood Pressure Device to Detect Irregular Heartbeat
England has approved a new blood pressure device that can also spot a dangerous heart condition. The disorder can cause a racing heartbeat which could lead to tiny blood clots triggering a stroke.
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence has recommended the use of the 75 pound WatchBP Home A device in England's 34,000 GP surgeries, the Daily Express reported.

The device is a BP monitor that automatically detects pulse irregularity and could be used on 400,000 patients and save the NHS in England around 26 million pounds each year.

The watchdog recommends that while the device should be considered for use on people with suspected high blood pressure it can also benefit those with suspected atrial fibrillation (AF).

Once detected, AF sufferers can then have an existing electrocardiogram (ECG) test.
