Blumenthal Issues Written Apology to Sick Diners

Four months after he was forced to close down his restaurant after the outbreak of food poisoning, Heston Blumenthal has sent out individual apologies to all the 529 patrons who fell ill after eating at his Fat Duck restaurant.

The 43-year old chef sent out individual letters to all those who fell ill after eating shellfish based dishes at Fat Duck and expressed regret for not having sent the apology letter sooner. Blumenthal said that he was deeply upset by the incident and sent out an invitation for a complimentary meal at the Fat Duck.

"I am so sorry that I have not been able to write before - I have wanted to contact you personally for many months, ever since the problem first emerged, but I was advised by the official bodies carrying out the investigation, our lawyers and insurers, that I could not do so until both the factual and legal situation had been established. The effects of February this year were devastating to me and my whole team, as they were to many of our guests, and I wish to invite them all to return to The Fat Duck at their convenience", the letter read.

However he refused to take the blame for the incident after Health Protection Agency's (HPA) report revealed that the raw shellfish served was tainted with human sewage. Instead both Blumenthal and his insurers have blamed the local water authority along with the supplier who had sent the shellfish.
