The British Medical Association has warned doctors to be careful when using social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter following a number of cases in which health officials found themselves in trouble for posting on the social media. The chairman of the BMA's medical ethics committee, Dr Tony Calland warned that medical professionals should be careful of what they are positing on the social networking sites and also added that doctors should try to avoid accepting past and present patients as friends on such sites.
“Medical professionals should be wary of who could access their personal material online, how widely it could be shared and how it could be perceived by their patients and colleagues”, Dr Calland said.
