A device which is capable of performing simultaneous PET (position emission tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans has received the approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This device called The Siemens Biograph system creates images of internal organs and tissue as well as detailed images of body’s organs, bones and soft tissues.
This device helps in reducing total radiation exposure while also preventing the requirement to shift patients to two different scanners.
