Leafy green vegetables and olive oil can improve heart health, according Dr. Domenico Palli and his team from the Cancer Research and Prevention Institute in Florence. Women who consumed at least one serving of leafy greens a day were 46 percent less likely to develop heart disease compared to women who consumed much less. Consumption of at least three tablespoons of olive oil a day was also found to have similar beneficial benefits on the heart.
The study, which is published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, analyzed the data of 30,000 Italian women and followed their health record for a period of eight years. Their analysis revealed that regular consumption of olive oil and leafy green vegetables resulted in heart protective benefits.
Earlier research had also indicated that vegetables and olive oil is not only protective against heart disease, it can also prevent obesity, type-2 diabetes, offset risk of breast cancer, prevent obesity and forms of dementia. In effect, olive oil and leafy green vegetables can help you live long with good health.
