Australian scientists have made significant progress in their endeavour to bring out super vegetables with cancer fighting properties

Australian scientists have made significant progress in their endeavour to bring out super vegetables with cancer fighting properties. The first of this series, the antioxidant loaded broccoli has successfully entered the Australian markets.

‘Vital Vegetables’, as they are called is packed to contain 40 per cent more antioxidants than the normal vegetables.

These vegetables were bred by employing traditional techniques for 10 years costing about A$20m.

According to research team leader Dr Rod Jones, the vegetables contain high levels of antioxidants which can help cut the risk of cancer in consumers.

He said, “We know one in three people could greatly reduce their risk of cancer through simple changes to their lifestyle, like eating a greater variety of healthy foods rich in antioxidants, not smoking and maintaining a healthy weight. Our research suggests the higher level of antioxidants found in Booster Broccoli may increase health and wellbeing and reduce the incidences of serious illnesses.”

Booster Broccoli can now be purchased in supermarkets around Australia.
